The ” Kap” chanting ceremony for the “Kap planting was held today (08) early morning at the Dedimunda Devalaya in Aluthnuwara, marking the beginning of Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2021. The cutting of a selected Jak tree which has not borne fruits yet by using a silver axe is the ceremony of chanting “Kap” which was done by Vishnu Devalaya of Kandy together with the Dedimunda Devalaya of Aluthnuwara. This selected tree is known as “Panasa tree”. The silver axe was handed over to the “Wannaku Rala” a title given to the person who will do the task and was granted permission to cut the “Panasa tree”. He then cut the tree facing South at 4.10 am the auspicious time for that ritual amidst the chanting of “pirith” by maha sangha. The “Kapa” which was covered in a white clean cloth was then taken to the Dedimunda Devalaya of Aluthnuwara and then to Vishnu Devalaya of Kandy on the Royal tusker in a magnificent procession under a canopy. Later the “Kapa” was distributed among the four devalaya.
අළුයම කැපූ කප සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත වැඩමවා බෙදාදෙයි.හෙළයේ මහා සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යයේ සමාරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමින් මහනුවර ඇසළ පෙරහැර මංගල්‍යයේ කප් සිටුවීමේ පුරාණ චාරිත්‍රය සදහා කප කැපීම අද (08) අලුයම අලුත්නුවර පුරවරයේ දී සිදු විය. මහනුවර විෂ්ණු දේවාලය හා අලුත්නුවර දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දේවාලය ඒකාබද්ධව අලුත්නුවර ප්‍රදේශයේ තෝරා ගත් කිරි සහිත ඵල නොදැරූ ගසක් රිදී පොරවකින් කැපීම මෙහිදී සිදුවිය. එම වෘක්ෂය හඳුන්වනු ලබන්නේ පනස වෘක්ෂය වශයෙනි. වාන්නක්කු රාළ වෙත රිදී පොරව භාර දී පනස වෘක්ෂය කැපීම සදහා අවසරය ලබා දීමෙන් අනතුරුව, මහා සංඝරත්නයේ සෙත් පිරිත් සජ්ඣායන මධ්‍යයේ අලුයම හතර පසුවී මිනිත්තු දහයට යෙදුණ සුබ මොහොතින් දකුණු දිශාව බලා පනස වෘක්ෂය කැපීම සිදුවිය. අනතුරුව සකස් කරන ලද එම කපය ධවල රෙදි කඩින් ඔතා උඩු වියන් සහිත පෙරහරින් අළුත්නුවර දේවාලයත් අනතුරුව මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලයත් කරා ඇතු පිටින් වැඩම කිරිම සිදු විය. අනතුරුව සතර දේවාල වෙත චාරිත්‍රානුකූලව කප බෙදාදෙන ලදී.
