The Kap Chanting (Kapa Kapeema) ceremony, the first ritual of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2023 was performed today in Sathara Koralaya.
The ancient ritual of Kap Chanting of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival of the hill capital was performed today the 16th day of the month of August in the year 2023 at the auspicious time of 5.10 am at Aluthnuwara in Sabaragamuwa Province. The ritual was performed under the leadership of Sri Maha Vishnu Dewalaya of Kandy. The Kapa which was brought to Dadimunda Dewalaya of Aluthnuwara on the royal tusker was later brought to Sri Maha Vishnu Dewalaya in a magnificent procession with drumming and accompanying instruments, after performing the ancient rituals & offerings. The Kapa will be distributed among the four Dewala at the auspicious time of 4.10pm. Inside processions in the Dewala premises will start tomorrow (17th August) after planting the Kapa at the auspicious time of 6.12 am.
This traditional ritual which dates back 3 centuries, continues even today without any change. “Kapa” is a post or a pillar “Kap Situweema” or Kap Chanting is to show their devotion by planting a post. The auspicious times are given by the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic but the rituals are followed by the Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama & Paththini, the four Dewala.
2023 කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ පෙරහර මහා මංගල්ලය වෙනුවෙන් පළමු චාරිත්‍රය ලෙස සතර කෝරළයේ දී කප් කැපේ.
ඓතිහාසික කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ පෙරහර පැවැත්වීම වෙනුවෙන්, ඉපැරණි වත් පිළිවෙත් වලට අනුව කප් සිටුවීම සඳහා කප කැපීම රාජ්‍ය වර්ෂ 2023ක් වූ නිකිණි මස 16 වෙනි දින හෙවත් අද අලුයම 5.10 ට යෙදුණ සුබ මොහොතින් සබරගමු පුරවරයේ අළුත්නුවර දී සිදු කෙරිණ. එය සිදු කෙරුණේ, මහා දේවාලය හෙවත් මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලයේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් ය. අලුත්නුවර, ශ්‍රී දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දේවාලය වෙත හස්තිරාජයා පිට හේවිසි තූර්ය වාදන මධ්‍යයේ ගෙන ආ කප පුද පූජා පවත්වා, පෙරහරින් මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලය දක්වා රැගෙන එන ලදී. එය අද පස්වරු 04.10 ට සිව්මහා දේවාල වෙත කප බෙද‍ාදෙනු ලබන අතර, හෙට (අගෝ. 17) දින පෙරවරු 06.12 යෙදෙන සුබ මොහොතින් එම දේවාලයන්හී කප් සිටුවා, අභ්‍යන්තර දේවාල පෙරහර ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිතයි.
සියවස් 3ක දුරාතීතයේ පටන් ඉටුකරනු ලබන මේ පෞරාණික චාරිත්‍රය, ‘කප’ යනු කණුවය. කණුවක් සිටුවා කැපවෙමි යන අර්ථයෙන් “කප් සිටුවීම” නමැති චාරිත්‍රය එදා සිට අද දක්වා නොනැසී පවතී. මහනුවර ඇසළ පෙරහර උදෙසා කප් සිටුවීමට සුදුසු නැකැත් ශ්‍රී දළදා මාලිගාව මඟින් පිළියෙල කර දෙන නමුත්, දළදා මැදුරේ කප් සිටුවීමක් සිදු නොවේ. එය සිදු කරනු ලබන්නේ මහනුවර නාථ, විෂ්ණු, කතරගම හා පත්තිනි යන සතර මහා දේවාලයන් විසිනී.
