The Planting of “Kapa” at the four Devalaya premises today. The “Kap Chanting” which took place yesterday early morning marking the beginning of Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2022 was planted today (Aug. 17) at the four Devalaya premises at the auspicious time for this ritual. As the first ritual of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival comes to an end, the inside processions will commence from today onwards at Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Paththini Devalaya premises. සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත ගෙනා “කප” සුබ මෙහොතින් අද සිටුවන ලදී. ඓතිහාසික කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ මහා පෙරහර ආරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමින්, කප කැපීම ඊයේ අළුයම් යාමයේ සිදු වූ අතර එසේ කපා මහනුවර සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත රැගෙන ආ කප අද (අගෝස්තු 17) අළුයම යෙදුන සුබ මෙ‍ෙහාතින් සිටුවන ලදී. 2023 කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ පෙරහර මහා මංගල්ලය වෙනුවෙන් ප්‍රථමයෙන් ඉටුකළ පුරාතන චාරිත්‍රය එසේ අවසන් වන විට අද දින පටන් නාථ, විශ්ණු, කතරගම හා පත්තිනි යන සිව්මහා දේවාල අභ්‍යන්තර පෙරහර ආරම්භ වනු ඇති.
The Kap Chanting (Kapa Kapeema) Ceremony 2023
The Kap Chanting (Kapa Kapeema) ceremony, the first ritual of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2023 was performed today in Sathara Koralaya. The ancient ritual of Kap Chanting of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival of the hill capital was performed today the 16th day of the month of August in the year 2023 at the auspicious time of 5.10 am at Aluthnuwara in Sabaragamuwa Province. The ritual was performed under the leadership of Sri Maha Vishnu Dewalaya of Kandy. The Kapa which was brought to Dadimunda Dewalaya of Aluthnuwara on the royal tusker was later brought to Sri Maha Vishnu Dewalaya in a magnificent procession with drumming and accompanying instruments, after performing the ancient rituals & offerings. The Kapa will be distributed among the four Dewala at the auspicious time of 4.10pm. Inside processions in the Dewala premises will start tomorrow (17th August) after planting the Kapa at the auspicious time of 6.12 am. This traditional ritual which dates back 3 centuries, continues even today without any change. “Kapa” is a post or a pillar “Kap Situweema” or Kap Chanting is to show their devotion by planting a post. The auspicious times are given by the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic but the rituals are followed by the Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama & Paththini, the four Dewala. 2023 කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ පෙරහර මහා මංගල්ලය වෙනුවෙන් පළමු චාරිත්‍රය ලෙස සතර කෝරළයේ දී කප් කැපේ. ඓතිහාසික කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ පෙරහර පැවැත්වීම වෙනුවෙන්, ඉපැරණි වත් පිළිවෙත් වලට අනුව කප් සිටුවීම සඳහා කප කැපීම රාජ්ය වර්ෂ 2023ක් වූ නිකිණි මස 16 වෙනි දින හෙවත් අද අලුයම 5.10 ට යෙදුණ සුබ මොහොතින් සබරගමු පුරවරයේ අළුත්නුවර දී සිදු කෙරිණ. එය සිදු කෙරුණේ, මහා දේවාලය හෙවත් මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලයේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් ය. අලුත්නුවර, ශ්‍රී දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දේවාලය වෙත හස්තිරාජයා පිට හේවිසි තූර්ය වාදන මධ්‍යයේ ගෙන ආ කප පුද පූජා පවත්වා, පෙරහරින් මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලය දක්වා රැගෙන එන ලදී. එය අද පස්වරු 04.10 ට සිව්මහා දේවාල වෙත කප බෙද‍ාදෙනු ලබන අතර, හෙට (අගෝ. 17) දින පෙරවරු 06.12 යෙදෙන සුබ මොහොතින් එම දේවාලයන්හී කප් සිටුවා, අභ්‍යන්තර දේවාල පෙරහර ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිතයි. සියවස් 3ක දුරාතීතයේ පටන් ඉටුකරනු ලබන මේ පෞරාණික චාරිත්‍රය, ‘කප’ යනු කණුවය. කණුවක් සිටුවා කැපවෙමි යන අර්ථයෙන් “කප් සිටුවීම” නමැති චාරිත්‍රය එදා සිට අද දක්වා නොනැසී පවතී. මහනුවර ඇසළ පෙරහර උදෙසා කප් සිටුවීමට සුදුසු නැකැත් ශ්‍රී දළදා මාලිගාව මඟින් පිළියෙල කර දෙන නමුත්, දළදා මැදුරේ කප් සිටුවීමක් සිදු නොවේ. එය සිදු කරනු ලබන්නේ මහනුවර නාථ, විෂ්ණු, කතරගම හා පත්තිනි යන සතර මහා දේවාලයන් විසිනී.
The Donation Of Colorful Elephant & Tusker Costumes For KEP 2023
The donation of vibrant & colorful elephant & tusker costumes for Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2023 took place today (Aug 11) morning at the Temple of The Sacred Tooth Relic.Mrs. Wasana Perera donated the set of costumes for the 5th consecutive time for the tusker group to be used on the 01st Kumbal procession scheduled to start on the 21st of August 2023. Mrs. Mangala Bannekotuwa donated the costume for the 02nd Kumbal procession under the guidance of Ven. Yatiyantota Chandakitti thero. Dr. Ashoka Dangolla, Professor of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Peradeniya University, donated the set of costumes for the 3rd Kumbal procession for the first time. Mrs. Saumya Herath donated the set of elephant costumes designed in local batik art for the fourth time to be used on the 4th Kumbal procession. Mrs. Chathurika Wijetunga and Mrs. Rupika Costa donated elephant costumes for the second time for the 5th and the last Kumbal procession.For the 01st Randoli procession, Mrs. Disna Vanigasekara donated the tusker group costumes for the fifth time and Mrs. Vasantha Rukmani Perera donated the set of costumes for the 02nd Randoli procession for the tenth time under the guidance of Venerable Yatianthota Chandakitti Thero. For the 3rd Randoli procession, the costumes were donated under the sponsorship of Ceylon Artifacts and Handicraft (Pvt) Ltd, for the second time under the initiative of Mr. Jayasankha Muthuranwela. Whilst Mr. R. D. Samarasinghe Appuhami donated the costumes for the 4th Randoli procession, Mr. Thusitha Wijesena, President and CEO of Kandy City Center (KCC), donated costumes for the Royal Tusker and the tusker group of the Grand Randoli procession, for the 29th consecutive time.Elephant costumes for the Day procession were donated by Mrs. Sasanka Alwis Edirisuriya for the third time. K. C. Thadani, Gimhan Rashintha, Sunil Rabel, Lahiru Asanga Srinayake, R.N. Rajapakse, S. Mrs. WasanaPerera donated the set of costumes for the 4thconsecutive time to be used for the first Kumbal procession on the 2nd August marking the commencement of the Kandy EsalaPerahera Festival 2022. Mrs. ChathurikaWijetunga& Mrs. Rupika Costa donated the costumes for the 2ndKumbal procession for the 9th consecutive time under the guidance of Rev. YatiyantotaChandakittiThero. For the 3rdKumbal procession a costume made out of Batik by Mr. LahiruAsangaSrinayake& Mr. Sunil Rabel was donated with the sponsorship of Member of Parliament Hon.DumindaDissanayake, Mrs. JayaniThiseraDissanayake, Mrs. ChandimaJayasuriya& Mr. SankaMuthuranwela. For the 4thKumbal procession by Mrs. SaumyaHerath and for the royal tusker group of 5thKumbal procession by Mrs. NisansalaPerera of Kandy for the 3rd consecutive time. The costume for the Front Runner’s(PeramuneRaala) tusker was donated by Mrs. NimathriRandeniya. Mrs. SasankaAlwis donated the costumes for the Day procession. Koppara Pujawa
“Koppara” (dried up split coconuts) to light up the procession was donated by Sri Lanka Army. The Army Commander General Shavendra Silva handed over a tray of “Koppara” today (09) to mark this. The Planting of “Kapa” at the four devalaya
The “Kap Chanting” which took place yesterday early morning marking the beginning of Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2021 was planted today (09) at the four devalaya premises at the auspicious time for this ritual. As the first ritual of the Kandy Esala Perahera Festival comes to an end, the inside procession will commence from today onwards at Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Paththini devalaya premises. සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත ගෙනා කප සුබ මෙහොතින් සිටුවයි.. — ඓතිහාසික කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ මහා පෙරහර ආරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමින්, කප කැපීම ඊයේ අළුයම් යාමයේ සිදු වූ අතර එසේ කපා මහනුවර සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත රැගෙන ආ කප අද(09) අළුයම යෙදුනු සුබ මූර්තියෙන් සිටුවන ලදී. 2021 කන්ද උඩරට ඇසළ මහා පෙරහර මංගල්ලය වෙනුවෙන් ප්‍රතමයෙන් ඉටුකළ පුරාතන චාරිත්‍රය එසේ අවසන් වන විට අද දින පටන් නාථ, විශ්ණු, කතරගම හා පත්තිනි යන සිව් මහා දේවාලවල අභ්‍යන්තර පෙරහර ආරම්භ වනු ඇති. Distribution of the “Kapa” among the four devalaya..
The ” Kap” chanting ceremony for the “Kap planting was held today (08) early morning at the Dedimunda Devalaya in Aluthnuwara, marking the beginning of Kandy Esala Perahera Festival 2021. The cutting of a selected Jak tree which has not borne fruits yet by using a silver axe is the ceremony of chanting “Kap” which was done by Vishnu Devalaya of Kandy together with the Dedimunda Devalaya of Aluthnuwara. This selected tree is known as “Panasa tree”. The silver axe was handed over to the “Wannaku Rala” a title given to the person who will do the task and was granted permission to cut the “Panasa tree”. He then cut the tree facing South at 4.10 am the auspicious time for that ritual amidst the chanting of “pirith” by maha sangha. The “Kapa” which was covered in a white clean cloth was then taken to the Dedimunda Devalaya of Aluthnuwara and then to Vishnu Devalaya of Kandy on the Royal tusker in a magnificent procession under a canopy. Later the “Kapa” was distributed among the four devalaya. අළුයම කැපූ කප සිව් මහා දේවාල වෙත වැඩමවා බෙදාදෙයි.හෙළයේ මහා සංස්කෘතික මංගල්‍යයේ සමාරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමින් මහනුවර ඇසළ පෙරහැර මංගල්‍යයේ කප් සිටුවීමේ පුරාණ චාරිත්‍රය සදහා කප කැපීම අද (08) අලුයම අලුත්නුවර පුරවරයේ දී සිදු විය. මහනුවර විෂ්ණු දේවාලය හා අලුත්නුවර දැඩිමුණ්ඩ දේවාලය ඒකාබද්ධව අලුත්නුවර ප්‍රදේශයේ තෝරා ගත් කිරි සහිත ඵල නොදැරූ ගසක් රිදී පොරවකින් කැපීම මෙහිදී සිදුවිය. එම වෘක්ෂය හඳුන්වනු ලබන්නේ පනස වෘක්ෂය වශයෙනි. වාන්නක්කු රාළ වෙත රිදී පොරව භාර දී පනස වෘක්ෂය කැපීම සදහා අවසරය ලබා දීමෙන් අනතුරුව, මහා සංඝරත්නයේ සෙත් පිරිත් සජ්ඣායන මධ්‍යයේ අලුයම හතර පසුවී මිනිත්තු දහයට යෙදුණ සුබ මොහොතින් දකුණු දිශාව බලා පනස වෘක්ෂය කැපීම සිදුවිය. අනතුරුව සකස් කරන ලද එම කපය ධවල රෙදි කඩින් ඔතා උඩු වියන් සහිත පෙරහරින් අළුත්නුවර දේවාලයත් අනතුරුව මහනුවර ශ්‍රී මහා විෂ්ණු දේවාලයත් කරා ඇතු පිටින් වැඩම කිරිම සිදු විය. අනතුරුව සතර දේවාල වෙත චාරිත්‍රානුකූලව කප බෙදාදෙන ලදී.
